During the last Year we organised concerts including Arabesk, Continental Blues Party, Jigzag, Blindman's Holiday, Blue Sliders, Peacetrain, James Keelaghan, Truckstop Honeymoon, Jali Buba Kuyateh, Alistaire Hewlett and the fantastic Lior. We hosted plays, including Arcadia, Mambo Italiano and shows by Playback Theatre and Little Beach Theatre. We were involved in the Community Spirit Dinner at Timbertown, and held a fundraiser for Rural Australians for Refugees. We hosted workshops such as the funny business workshop, and sound engineering workshop. We designed and made the beautiful mosaic table at the hall's entry. The Arts Council is the auspicing body for several community arts projects, including Bago Magic Performance Group, Playback Theatre and Arts in Health.
As the body responsible for management of the Wauchope Community Arts Hall, we spent many thousand dollars over the last twelve months making significant improvements to the hall, including purchasing curtains, a mixing desk, speakers, lighting bars as well as providing regular cleaning and maintenance of the hall. The hall is being used to almost full capacity by a diverse range of community groups, members and the general public. If you wish to book the hall, please contact Liz Tuck on 6585 8178.
Over the last year we have been encouraging a greater degree of professionalism in the way we do things, conscious to not stifle creativity. We identified our shared values, these being:
- Our roles will be carried out in a professional manner.
- We will be accountable for duties we undertake.
- We will act with integrity.
- We respect other people.
- Ideas will be considered without prejudgement.
- We will support each other.
- Our events will be accessible.
- Artists and the Arts Council will be paid fairly.
Over the last 12 months, I can say that we have achieved our mission of facilitating cultural development by:
- Providing diverse entertainment;
- Managing the Arts Hall as a community asset;
- Managing or auspicing local arts projects; and
- Representing the community to Council and government on arts and cultural issues.
The commitment, skill and vision of the committee have lead to a range of exceptional events, full usage of a much improved hall and healthy finances. We have improved the regularity of the gigs and are improving our promotion of events and the benefits of being a member. We have an excellent working relationship that has continued with Hastings Council, Arts Mid North Coast, Camden Haven Arts Council and Regional Arts NSW.
I would like to thank you again for being part of the Arts Council. A strong membership base is crucial to our survival. Please encourage your friends to join as well.
